The Pharmacy Association of Saskatchewan has launched a public awareness campaign to address the harmful effects of medication misuse. It encourages everyone to return all unused and expired medication to a local pharmacy. Mental Health and Addictions Minister Everett Hindley says removing unused prescription drugs limits access to those contemplating suicide. Pharmacy Association CEO, Michael Fougere says most prescription medications can be dangerous if not taken as directed, or if taken by someone other than the intended patient.
Pharmacists will accept the return of any unused medication. Scratch out any patient identification before handing them over in a clear plastic bag. The province is providing $350,000 for the program.
