Often the shelters where a victim of serious crime might end up are full, leaving them with no place to go, rather than returning home to the scene of the crime.
That, from the President of the Saskatoon Police Foundation, George Liakopoulos, who says there is now another option to add to the mix.
Operation Safety Net is a partnership between the Foundation, Saskatoon Crisis Intervention Service and GFL Environmental.
Liakopoulos explains a victim of serious life-altering crimes like domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse, can now choose to stay in a hotel for up to 48 hours if there are no other options available.
Waste management company GFL Environmental has donated $5,000 to launch Operation Safety Net.
He says the program is intended to support victims with a soft landing where they can rest and gather themselves, while they figure out what comes next.
The Saskatoon Police Service Foundation is a not-for-profit community-led foundation which supports emergency services.
All Directors who sit on the board of the SPSF are members of the community, and are not police officers.
