Regina Police say they have now laid charges after a city resident’s pet was found dead in a field in the Northwest part of Regina. Police say their investigation started on June 13th when a woman called to say her cat had been lured from her yard in the 2300 block of McAra Street.
She verified this was the case by reviewing her home’s surveillance footage from two days earlier which showed a man luring the cat and taking it from the yard. A check of the microchip confirmed the deceased cat belonged to the McAra Street resident. As well, there was evidence the same suspect had tried to steal the cat a day prior to it actually going missing.
A necropsy report concluded the cat’s injuries were severe and not accidental.
29 year old Matthew James Drummond of Regina who is already the subject of two Probation Orders with several conditions, was in court today (weds) charged with Attempt Theft, six counts of Breach of Probation, Theft under $5,000 and Causing Unnecessary Suffering to Animals.
