Evolving technology never ceases to amaze me. I was looking back on a Coffetalk I did in 2006 in which I commented that there were 2.7 billion searches per month on Google. Nowadays there are around 100 billion. The first commercial text message was sent in 1992. By 2009 the number of text messages sent and received every day exceeded the population of the planet. Today the number is about 27 billion and climbing. The number of internet connected devices in 1984 was 1,000. Today it’s nearly 14 billion. I got my first cell phone in 1993. The battery gave me 20 minutes of straight talk time and 45 minutes of standby time. The Smartphone I have today I swear is smarter than I am. Once in a while it’s been sitting locked on the table near me and all of a sudden Siri comes on and says, ”Can you say that again, I couldn’t hear you”, which, needless to say, made me jump. Reminds me of the story of the guy who comes home from work and says to his wife, “ You know, technology is getting out of hand. Pretty soon we won’t have any privacy at all”. And he laughed. And his wife laughed. And Siri laughed. And Alexa laughed.
That’s Coffeetalk. I’m Vic Dubois.
