Because of a COVID-19 vaccination mandate imposed last year, the Tory MP for Yorkton-Melville was required to leave the House of Commons Friday after trying to access the precinct.
Last November, the House Board of Internal Economy required anyone accessing the House of Commons precinct to show they’re fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or show a valid medical exemption.
Cathay Wagantall says she was informed by the Tory House leader she could stay but had to leave by the end of the day.
“At which point the House of Commons Nurse had no choice but to reflect the political will of the Prime Minister rather than her medical, profesional perspective.”
Wagantall says she can’t fly or take a train due to the federal government’s vaccination rules, adding it takes 3-and-a-half days to drive to Ottawa from her riding.
Wagantall says she left on her own accord, but believed once the House rose, she would have been apprehended and removed.
