The Government of Saskatchewan has unveiled the design of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal. The medal design was approved by the Queen and it celebrates the 70th anniversary year of Her Majesty’s accession to the Throne.
The medal is awarded to Saskatchewan people who have made contributions to their communities and a total of 7,000 will be presented in the Platinum Jubilee year which ends on February 5, 2023.
The medal includes the Saskatchewan Shield of Arms, the provincial flower and is suspended from a blue, red and white ribbon with the blue representing Canada’s three seas, with the red and white being the national colours of Canada as taken from the National Flag and Royal Arms of Canada. The white is also a representation of platinum, and the medal commemorates the Platinum Jubilee.
During her reign the Queen has visited Saskatchewan five times including for the province’s centennial in 2005.
