One of Melville’s big infrastructure projects is about to get underway. Director of Public Works Andrew Fahlman says work on the Vertical Landfill Expansion is expected to start at the end of May.
A significant challenge the expansion is facing is the fact it is over-budget by 749-thousand dollars; the project’s budget is more than $4.5 million.
Fahlman says there is a Coverall storage building planned in order to store equipment and tools which are supplies they need to operate. They aren’t however, according to Fahlman, one hundred per cent necessary when it comes to being compliant with environmental regulations.
PME is the contractor doing the work.
Fahlman also noted a development agreement was signed with the R-M of Cana to upgrade the road leading into the Landfill.
