Yesterday’s (Saturday) protests in Ottawa were for the most part peaceful with crowds taking part in a ceremony at the War Memorial, which is also an exclusion zone for vehicles, and that was followed by a motorcycle drive-by and then an afternoon rally on Parliament Hill.
Several highway off-ramps to the downtown core of the nation’s capital remain shut down today after being closed on Saturday. Ottawa Police say they are maintaining the controlled access today (Sunday) they say much of that effort is being directed at supporting and protecting the CN Cycle for CHEO. The cycling event raises money for childhood cancer care, research and equipment at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
Police say bylaw officers have ticketed and towed vehicles over the last two days and there have been several arrests. They report that the organizers of the motorcycle rally, estimated at 350 motorcycles, changed its route this morning and provided that route change to officers.
