The sister of a missing Saskatoon woman will embark on a cross-country walk to raise awareness about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Lindsey Bishop will begin her journey in Victoria today (Feb 18).
Bishop’s sister, Megan Gallagher was last seen on surveillance video in September of 2020 at a convenience store located in the 3700 block of Diefenbaker Drive in Saskatoon’s Confederation Park neighbourhood.
Bishop says she’s both anxious and excited to start the journey. “I guess my hopes are kind of the same (as her father’s), bring awareness, to have conversations, have people have some of those hard conversations, also to bring together families who are hurting and let them know that they’re not alone.”
Bishop added “Generations of trauma led to this and generations of misinformation and not talking and having those conversations that have made it so our women and girls are marginalized and taken advantage of.”
Her dad, Brian Gallagher hopes the number of those who go missing comes down. “I don’t know if they’ll ever disappear, but if they come down even just the smallest amount, I think that’s a big step. And over time, maybe 20, 30 years from now, we won’t even have this as an issue.”
Bishop says it’s going to be a hard road physically, emotionally and spiritually. Those taking part in the walk will make their way to St. John’s with not hard date set for when they will arrive on the east coast.
