Eighty-seven people died on Saskatchewan’s roads last year, according to preliminary statistics from SGI. That’s the same number as 2020, which is the second lowest number since recording began in the 1950s. In 2019, there were 71 fatalities.
Minister Responsibile for SGI, Don Morgan, says, “It’s important not to lose sight of the fact that these aren’t simply numbers on a chart. No one should ever die due to a motor vehicle collision, and no family should ever have to experience this type of loss.”
SGI’s preliminary data for 2021 concludes that impairment, speeding, distraction and not wearing a seatbelt remain Saskatchewan’s Big Four traffic safety concerns
