Saskatchewan feeder cattle prices were mixed for the final week of the year.

Heavier steers did better in the sales ring with 800-900 pound animals posting a gain of $2.81 for an average price of $182.81 per hundredweight. Lightweight steers were about $1.50 lower on the week with 300-400 pounders averaging $242.25 per hundredweight.

Feeder heifer prices were higher with the exception of the highest weight category.

Canfax report 11,343 head of cattle were sold in the province— about 800 head lower than the same week one year ago.

Prices for live, non-fed cattle in Alberta were higher than the previous week. D2 slaughter cows rose $4.60 to average $76.10 per hundredweight. D3 slaughter cows saw a price increase of $4.92 to average $67.50 per hundredweight.
