Saskatoon’s Mayor considers an agreement on a parcel of land a win-win for the community and for Inland Steel Products. Charlie Clarke explains that the metal recycling facility will move from Avenue P and 17th Street West to the Marquis Industrial area, with plans for a new headquarters and an expanded state-of-the-art facility. Three parcels totalling just over 12 hectares had been held back from the market with the strategy that it would attract a heavy industrial buyer, such as Inland Steel, to foster expansion and job creation. The land deal means the current site can be rezoned for light industrial uses.
Director of Planning and Development, Lesley Anderson, says light industrial use is a better fit with the surrounding residential neighbourhoods.
President of Inland, Matt Ditlove, says the new expanded facility will ensure a fast and stress-free experience for recycling scrap metal in Saskatoon, for both industrial vendors and individuals.
