The Saskatoon Tribal Council would like to see the education and awareness around the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Residential School Survivors to continue throughout the year. Tribal Chief Mark Arcand says that’s why they are calling for everyone to help create a movement.
The idea is to wear an orange shirt on the last Friday of every month, and take pictures or create videos to post on social media using #ActOnReconciliation. Share how you will take action and invite others to do the same. Arcand says, “Sharing how we are going to take action going forward to make reconciliation happen is the way through the dark history of Residential Schools to heal our intergenerational trauma and improve the quality of life of our people.”
He hopes that coming together, united in a common cause, will build community and strengthen relationships to move forward in a good way. Arcand would like to see businesses, educational institutions, organizations and individuals take part to create this movement. The Tribal Chief adds that Saskatoon has been a leader in reconciliation with over 100 organizations taking part, but he hopes these social media posts will be an opportunity to take it even further.
