Country Thunder Saskatchewan has organized tonight’s benefit concert at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon which organizers hope will be an entertaining and healing evening.
One of the country music stars taking the stage will be Chad Brownlee who is very familiar with the world of hockey having been a Vancouver Canucks draft pick in 2003. Brownlee says he’s honoured to be in Saskatoon for tonight’s tribute concert and is looking forward to bringing some light and fun to the people touched by the Humboldt Broncos bus tragedy.
He says among the tunes being played he will sing a song that is a tribute to the Humboldt Broncos, “Everybody knows who Tom Cochrane is, and actually I called Tom personally to…to make sure he was okay with me playing that song. And he said he was honoured. He is one of the kindest men you’ll ever meet and so I’m really honoured to play that song tonight.”
Jess Moskaluke is among the artists participating in tonight’s tribute concert and the Saskatchewan singer/songwriter says the event is for those impacted by the Humboldt Broncos team bus crash.
She says it is not about the stars taking the stage, “It’s not about us, it’s about them this weekend. The fact that, you know, we’re just…we’re just using our names and songs to bring people together and hopefully have a really good time, and raise some money doing it.”
Gord Bamford and his band mates traveled through the night by bus to get to Saskatoon to participate in the tribute concert to those impacted by the Humboldt team bus crash which claimed 16 lives and injured 13 others.
He says the accident is a terrible thing but it was heartening to see how Canadians have come together, “And people from all over the world who have shown their support financially, and got behind the families and obviously money can’t replace what’s happened but I think just the comfort and the people helping out, can help them get through a bit of this.”
If you are heading out to the Country Thunder Benefit Concert tonight, the advice from SaskTel Centre is to come early. Doors open at 5:30 and the show starts at 7.
Park and ride service will be available for a $5 round trip fee with the yellow school buses departing from the Lawson Heights Mall, The Centre, Market Mall, and Confederation Mall with first buses leaving at 5:30 and the last ones at 6:40.
You can also catch a city bus to tonight’s Humboldt Broncos Tribute Concert. Buses run between 5:15 and 6:50 tonight leaving from the Special Events Stop at 23rd Street and 2nd Avenue. Drop-off after the concert is at the downtown terminal.
