The RCMP are continuing to search for 33 year-old Shawn Moostoos, who has yet to be located. Police are continuing to follow up on tips and leads and are encouraging anyone with information to call 9-1-1 immediately. It’s believed that he may be armed and and should not be approached. A 37 year-old man and a 28 year-old woman from the James Smith Cree Nation were declared deceased following a shooting at a home on the first nation shortly after 7 o’clock Sunday night. A 44 year-old man was taken to hospital by local EMS with serious, but not-life threatening injuries. Police say the suspect and victims were known to each other.
The SaskAlert system was used and a Critical Alert was issued advising the public not to answer doors, stay away from windows, and if they saw the suspect to call 911 while sheltering in place. Melfort RCMP continue to urge residents in the area not to pick up hitchhikers and beware of anyone asking for a ride.
Officers from multiple Saskatchewan RCMP detachments are involved in the active search that still continues for Moostoos. Overnight, the area was thoroughly searched with assistance from Saskatoon Police Service Air 1, STARS Air Ambulance, surrounding RCMP Detachments and Police Dog Services.
Moostoos is described as having brown eyes, brown hair, stands just over 6 feet tall, weighing 189 pounds. He has a scar on his left hand. He also may be driving a 2003, white Pontiac Montana with Saskatchewan license plate 938 MBT. Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
Residents in the area can expect to see an increased police presence as investigators continue their search. James Smith Cree Nation is about 60 kilometres east of Prince Albert.
