Saskatchewan’s Education Minister says the Government is willing to work with the teachers union to meet the needs of students.
Gord Wyant also told delegates at the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation Annual Meeting in Saskatoon the restoration of 30-million dollars to education in this year’s budget is a first step.
Wyant added examination of next fall’s enrollment numbers could mean more money for education, but emphasized any additional funding would have to come within the government’s goal of a balanced budget.
Teachers Federation President Patrick Maze is encouraged with the collaborative tone from the minister, but pointed out they aren’t moving from their position of the need for additional money as well as the reinstatement of the full 54-million dollars clawed back in the 2017 budget.
The Union requested binding arbitration in February when contract talks broke down.
