So political correctness has hit a new high. Or low depending on how you view it. Apparently more inclusive emoji’s are coming. More inclusive? I had to go deeper after I read that phrase which is when I realized my repertoire of emoji’s is apparently sadly deficient. I haven’t gotten past a few that indicate a birthday and the little round yellow guys expressing a feeling. I mean, they are round and yellow – who are they excluding besides people with too much time on their hands? Then I find out there are already 200 mixed-skin-tone options for couples. I have to be honest; I don’t even know what that means. For couples? So these are people from different walks of life who have chosen to walk through life together. Okay. Why is that an emoji? Is it like the new version of an answering machine where everyone’s voice is part of the message including the family pet? Why are we making emoji’s, which I view as the devil’s handiwork in terms of their use continuing to erode real communication, represent people? And then I discover there is a consortium which reviews possible emoji additions. Wow. I don’t know where I’ve been or what I’ve been doing that I didn’t realize how evolved the emoji world had become. Oh, right, I remember, I was living life, in real time, interacting with real people, not on a screen.
