Property taxes in Saskatoon could soon be lowered by almost a whole percentage point.
With the SaskEnergy grant-in-lieu program being reinstated in this month’s provincial budget, the city will receive $1.99 million dollars in 2018 from SaskEnergy which will translate into property taxes being lowered by 0.91 per cent.
Today the Governance and Priorities Committee voted in favour of the 0.91 recommendation from City Administration which will lower taxes to 3.79 per cent from 4.7 per cent.
The grants-in-lieu program was eliminated in 2017 and resulted in an $11.4 million dollar shortfall for the city which $2.66 million dollars of that total was passed onto city taxpayers.
Next week City Council will review the recommendation passed on by the committee today.
