When the Federal Government marked October 24th as Brain Cancer Awareness Day three years ago, the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada began their Hats for Hope campaign.
Susan Marshall, CEO of the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, says this year people can participate by posting on social media while wearing their favourite hat, with the hashtag #hatsforhope. They can also buy a Hats for Hope toque. Marshall says proceeds raised will go towards support and education about brain tumours in Canada.
Marshall says brain tumours are more common in Canada than people think with 27 people diagnosed everyday, even during the pandemic. Eight will be diagnosed with a malignant tumour which has a poor survival rate. Marshall suggests it is important to spread awareness of signs and symptoms because the earlier the tumour is diagnosed, it increases the chances of survival and a better quality of life.
