There are differing opinions possible locations of future Cannabis retail outlets in Saskatoon. City Administration is considering a plan to prevent Cannabis stores from being set up within 160-metres of schools or areas when youth gather like public parks. Community Services General Manager Randy Grauer (like johnny bower) said they could consider a much smaller zone for the Broadway District as 160-metres would exclude Broadway’s entire retail area. Grauer suggested a 60-metre zone in their case. Councillor Darren Hill opposes the buffer zone proposal. He said youth who already use the drug should see how it’s sold in a responsible, legislated manner. Hill felt hiding the outlets away will creatre more interest in consumption. The report will go to the city’s planning commission for a May 8th meeting in hopes of having recommendations ready for a public meeting May 28th.
