Satellite imagery and computer modelling are forecasting the second largest Canadian wheat crop on record—only behind 2013.
Statistics Canada is projecting a small one percent increase in spring wheat production to 25.93 million metric tonnes. However, durum wheat area rose substantially this year and is expected to produce 6.9 million tonnes, or about two million tonnes more than last year.
Pea and lentil production will also rise by double digits this year. Canola is forecast to hold relatively steady at 19.4 million tonnes.
