The road continues to not be kind to the Saskatoon Blades.

The Bridge City Bunch are 1-4-2 away from Saskatoon this season and winless on the road in their last four outings after Tuesday’s 6-4 loss in Red Deer. The Blue and Gold’s last and only road win of the season was September 25 by a 3-2 score in Prince Albert. The Blades managed just one of a possible six points from a three-game swing through Alberta and the Central Division. In all three contests, Saskatoon opened the scoring only to fall behind 2-1 on the way to watching the other team skate off the ice victorious. On Tuesday, the Bridge City Bunch did recover to tie the score at 2-2, but a defensive miscue allowed the Rebels to score off a 3-on-2 rush with 2.7 seconds remaining in the second period and Red Deer would not be caught. The Blue and Gold’s misfortune was magnified in the third period when Kaden Allan broke his stick on a slap shot attempt at the Rebels’ blue-line, allowing Saskatoon product Cash Arcand-Vandale to take off on a breakaway. He was awarded a penalty shot when David Lewandowski hooked him up from behind. Arcand-Vandale scored to extend the lead to 4-2 and left the Blades hanging their heads. To their credit, even after falling behind 5-2, Saskatoon made it interesting late – thanks to a pair of goals from Kazden Mathies 55 seconds apart to make it 5-4. But, Red Deer scored into the empty net in the dying seconds to end a three-game winless skid of their own and upping their record to 8-4-2. The Bridge City Bunch also got goals from Hayden Harsanyi and Hunter Laing as their overall mark dropped to 6-5-2. Mathies added an assist for a three-point night, Laing added a helper to his goal while, both, Brayden Klimpke and David Lewandowski chipped in with two assists. The Blue and Gold, who were out-shot for only the third time this season – 38-31 – return home for a Halloween matinee on Saturday against the Seattle Thunderbirds.
