It’s my Parting Shot for my reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section…..
First headline…Fourth straight loss leaves Riders in a bind, Now in a three-way tie with Winnipeg and Calgary as one will be the odd team out of the C-F-L playoffs. My reaction…I came across an interesting table of C-F-L West scenarios, which meant someone did a lot of work and research, on social media last night. Looking at the games involving Saskatchewan, the Bombers and the Stampeders over the final two weeks, there are 32 different standings configurations. Basically, from the 32 scenarios, the Green and White can finish third in eight of them, in fourth place in 15 of them and out of the playoffs in nine of the scenarios. Also, no standings’ spot has been assured going into the penultimate week of the regular-season. According to this chart, B-C can finish first and Edmonton second in two of the 32 scenarios while the Riders, Calgary and Winnipeg can finish anywhere between third, fourth and fifth. By way of odds, the Bombers are likely to finish third, Saskatchewan fourth and Calgary fifth. We shall see!!
Next headline…Guerrero on a vision quest, Jays slugger receives laser eye surgery in effort to rebound from big slump at the plate. Reaction…keep this in mind, Toronto baseball fans, come the 2027 season. Vladdy Junior really has no excuse now for another poor season at the plate!
Last headline…Raptors rise in value to six-point-four-seven billion dollars, U-S, according to report. My reaction…The facts are that Sportico’s annual report on N-B-A franchise valuations has the Toronto franchise being the 11th most valuable out of the 32 teams in the roundball loop. Keep that in mind folks when it comes time to renew your Rogers’ cable subscription – and the price goes up. Or, when Rogers Communications trims staff from its various media entities! I’m already with SaskTel Max and don’t work for Rogers, so no worries for me – but I’d be up in arms if either of those things affected me. Keep in mind, also, that Rogers owns the N-H-L’s Toronto Maple Leafs, reportedly worth four-point-eight billion bucks – the most of all teams in The Show!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
