It was a “wild west shootout” in Moose Jaw Saturday night with a video review required to determine if the winning goal in overtime should stand – which it did as the Warriors out-scored the Saskatoon Blades 7-6 before 2,730 fans in Moose Jaw’s home opener.

Gage Nagel’s third goal of the contest, just 42 seconds into the O-T session, while the Warriors were on a power play, proved to be the winner. It was a game in which there were three lead changes and the score was tied on five occasions. The overtime setback spoiled a five-point for 20-year-old Bridge City Bunch right winger Hunter Laing. He had two goals and three assists. Defenceman Brayden Klimpke scored twice, the second goal with 3:55 remaining in the third period took the game to a fourth period. Cooper Williams and Triston Mitchell-McElhone also scored for the Blue and Gold. Williams chipped in two assists for a three-point game while blueliner Tyrone Sobry and forward Kazden Mathies each had two helpers. The line of Mathies-Williams and Laing combined for 10 points while the Blades out-shot Moose Jaw 38-27. Saskatoon scored 10 goals in their first two games, but by allowing 12 goals, have only one of a possible four points in the standings to start the new campaign. The Bridge City Bunch don’t play until Friday when they open a home-and-home series with the arch-rival Raiders in Prince Albert. The return match-up is Saturday, the Blue and Gold’s home opener at SaskTel Centre.
