Saskatoon’s Chief Financial Officer says the mid-year forecast includes a deficit of $4.5 million.
Clae Hack explained to City Council on Wednesday that the city’s snow and ice management program is forecasting a $3 million deficit, mostly attributed to the extended winter and snowfall in the first half of this year.
Hack added that that although nearly all city departments are operating within their approved expenditure budgets, shortfalls in some of the city’s general revenues, such as fines and penalties, franchise fees and grants in lieu, are making it more difficult for the City to have a balanced budget for 2026.
For the rest of the year, he says the City will have a focus on addressing and reducing any potential deficit.
