The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is criticizing the Saskatchewan government’s travel costs after $17,401 was spent on flights for cabinet ministers to attend the Saskatchewan Association of Municipalities (SUMA) convention in Saskatoon in April 2025.

In a news release, the CTF stated that the money went to two private planes between Regina and Saskatoon.  The CTF obtained the numbers and documents through freedom-of-information requests.

Flight one was Premier Scott Moe, his chief of staff and seven cabinet ministers. The second flight was five more cabinet ministers and three backbench MLAs. It’s estimated that the flights cost taxpayers $966.73 per passenger, according to the documents obtained by the CTF.

The taxpayers group stated in its news release that the government “could have rented three minivans, bought three tanks of gas, 17 large double-doubles and two-dozen doughnuts for about $800.”

The provincial government said the flights were required so MLA’s could attend the SUMA bear pit session in Saskatoon and also attend question period in the Legislature later in the day.
