As they arrived at work Wednesday, staff at Border Paws Animal Shelter in Lloydminster were shocked to discover that someone had dropped off two Rubbermaid bins full of cats at their doorstep.
Upon bringing the bins inside, they were greeted by 21 confused cats and kittens, putting additional pressure on an already over-capacity facility, according to a Facebook post.
The post continues that “dumping animals at our facility places enormous strain on our staff, volunteers, resources, and the animals already in our care…The reality is that we do not have space for these cats. We now have to scramble to find housing, supplies, veterinary care, and foster placements for them.”
Border Paws wishes the people who left the cats would have called the shelter first, so a different solution could be determined.
They are now asking the community for help by means of food donations, monetary donations, fostering, or volunteering.
