Both female suspects involved in a stolen vehicle in the early hours of Thursday morning are now in police custody.
An updated news release from the Prince Albert Police Service (P-A-P-S) said a 27-year-old passenger in the stolen vehicle was located away from the North Saskatchewan River where the vehicle was following a police pursuit. The second suspect was uninjured.
The incident began at about 2 a.m. Thursday morning when a woman allegedly had her vehicle robbed of her at gunpoint in Prince Albert.
When P-A-P-S officers arrived at the scene they found two women with no injuries. The vehicle had fled the scene prior to police arrival. Soon after, officers were able to locate the vehicle. The vehicle didn’t stop for police and a pursuit began. The vehicle continued to evade police before entering the river.
Police were on scene and saw two people in the vehicle in the river.
A 22-year-old woman, who was the driver, was found on the riverbank a short distance from where the vehicle had entered into the water. She was taken to the Victoria Hospital and treated for minor injuries. She has been arrested in relation to the incident.
Following an assessment of the circumstances, it was determined that the threshold for a Serious Incident Response Team (S-I-R-T) investigation was not met, so S-I-R-T is no longer involved. However, the Prince Albert Police Service Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the robbery, theft of vehicle, evade police and collision.
