It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…..
It is fun to watch the Toronto media and the national sports networks – based in the Big Smoke, of course – scramble and analyze to death how Mitch Marner has become thee favourite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as Stanley Cup Playoffs M-V-P. Marner was the lightning rod for criticism by all the Toronto and national media experts – and, by extension, fans – for the Maple Leafs’ post-season failures over the past decade, leading to the Buds mercifully trading him away from all the noise to Vegas. Now, the Golden Knights are two wins away from winning the N-H-L title and Marner has a large eight-point lead over team-mate Jack Eichel for top point-getter in the playoffs! Hmm, methinks the Leafs should’ve traded captain Auston Matthews, instead of Marner?!
For those of you boycotting watching the Stanley Cup final because there is no Canadian team involved while Las Vegas and the Carolinas are nowhere near being traditional hockey markets – well, you’re missing out on a great series! Great Canadian-born players on both sides are getting it done for the Golden Knights and Hurricanes! Just saying!!
Okay, the C-F-L has really lost me when it comes to the reasoning behind scheduling, not just three games on the opening weekend of their regular-season schedule – but only three games are on the slate for this coming weekend! Whose hair-brained idea was this?! I understand the World Cup of Soccer plays into this, but that’s only Toronto and Vancouver!! My mind is completely boggled by this!!
Two of my favourite things in life were available to be attended Saturday night, but that conflict was easily rectified by the fact that I get paid a few sheckles by the Saskatoon Entertainment Group to call the action of Saskatoon Berries’ home games on the Flo College web streaming service. I would have loved to have attended the Guess Who concert Saturday at SaskTel Centre – seeings how I’m a born and raised Winnipegger who grew up with the music of the Winnipeg-based group – in my humble opinion, thee greatest rock and roll group in Canadian music history! Maybe next time – hopefully there is one!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again…..
