The Conservative Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food was critical of the federal government’s trade policy on two separate fronts.
John Barlow is very concerned that Canada is being left in the dust when it comes to discussions regarding the free trade agreement with the United States and Mexico.
While Canada is having limited engagement with the United States, there appears to be plenty of progress in reaching a deal with the Mercosur nations in South America—-Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. Barlow notes that they are large including Brazil and Argentina. Those two countries are large beef exporting nations.
Barlow said he has heard rumors that the framework of a Mercosur trade agreement could be made by Canada Day.
