The Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre is urgently calling for community support as they reach the midway point of their City Wide Food Driver.
The food bank says it is in critical need of donations for households facing food insecurity. This year’s theme is “don’t let your neighbours fall through the cracks.”
In a news release the food bank says their theme focuses on the reality that many are facing behind closed doors. On average, 23,000 people turn to the Food Bank each month for support, with nearly 40 percent being children.
Executive Director, Laurie O’Connor says when a community comes together, small acts ofsupport add up and the City-Wide Food Drive gives people a simple way to turn small acts of giving into a big impact. Monetary donations can be made online at saskatoonfoodbank.org/donate, or food, cash, and cheque donations can be dropped off in person at 202 Avenue C. South.
Most-needed items include baby food and formula, canned fruits and vegetables, hearty soups and stews, whole-grain pasta and cereals, canned protein and peanut butter.
