They were better Saturday than they were Friday, but the Saskatoon Blades lost again and trail 2-0 to the Prince Albert Raiders in the best-of-seven W-H-L Eastern Conference semi-final as P-A thrilled another full house at the Art Hauser Centre with a 3-0 victory.
After being bounced 6-1 in Game 1, the Bridge City Bunch hung with the Raiders for the first 33 minutes of Game 2, only to allow all three Prince Albert goals in a 7:21 span late in the second period and early in the third. From there, the Raiders clamped down on defence, putting a lid on the Blue and Gold’s offence. The P-A goals came from Owen Corkish, Jonah Sivertson and Matyas Man with Sivertson adding an assist while Michal Orsulak made 15 saves for his second shutout of the post-season before 3,299 fans. The Raiders, who had 18 more wins and 35 more points than the Blades during the regular-season, appear to have found the recipe for shutting down Saskatoon’s attack. In the last four head-to-head meetings – an end of regular-season home-and-home series, plus the first two games of this playoff set – Prince Albert has out-scored the Bridge City Bunch 17-1 and out-shot them 147-78, or an average of just under 38 to 19-and-a-half. The Raiders have shutout the Blue and Gold in three of those four contests. The series shifts to SaskTel Centre for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday. In 2019, the Blades lost the first two games of a second round series in P-A, only to come home and even up the set before succumbing in six games.
