The Prince Albert Raiders were ready to go from the first puck drop Friday night while the Saskatoon Blades weren’t ready for just how ready P-A was as the visiting Bridge City Bunch were bounced 6-1.
Aiden Oiring and Daxon Rudolph tallied before Game 1 of the best-of-seven W-H-L Eastern Conference semi-final was six minutes old while the Blue and Gold didn’t register their first shot on goal until 12-and-a-half minutes into the contest, by which time the Raiders had peppered goaltender Evan Gardner with 12 shots. The sold-out crowd of 3,299 at the Art Hauser Centre, largely pro-Prince Albert, saw the Raiders score the first six goals before cruising the rest of the way to a 1-0 series lead. Only a power play goal by Zach Olsen with just over nine minutes to play in the third period prevented P-A goaltender Michal Orsulak from registering a second shutout in this post-season. Oiring ended up with two goals, Rudolph had a goal and two assists – as did Brandon Gorzynski – Brayden Dube notched a goal and chipped in an assist while Alisher Sarkenov had the other marker for Prince Albert, who out-shot the Blades 42-17. In addition, Raiders’ captain Justice Christensen had three assists and Braeden Cootes added two helpers. Game 2 goes Saturday night in P-A at 7 o’clock. CJWW’s broadcast starts at 6:45.
