The Saskatoon Police Service responded to multiple bear spray incidents over in recent days starting last Thursday around 11:10 a.m. when police were called after a male was bear sprayed on a city bus in the 2500 block of 8th Street East. The suspect had fled and the victim didn’t want further medical care.
At 12:50 a.m. Friday police were told there were four males at a doorstep in the 3400 block of Fairlight Drive who had followed the victims there and allegedly had bear spray. Responding officers located two males matching suspect descriptions and upon a search of one of them, two cans of bear spray were located. A 16-year-old male and 14-year-old male have been charged with assault with a weapon and the 14-year old has also been charged with possession of a weapon and concealing a weapon.
About 40 minutes later officers responded to a weapons call at a business in the 2200 block of 22nd Street West. Information provided to Dispatch indicated a female was allegedly assaulting people with a metal pole. As police arrived on scene, officers saw woman open the front doors of the business and discharge bear spray inside. As police were arresting her, another woman came out of the business carrying a metal pole. Police learned the two had been fighting before police arrived. Both were arrested. A 21-year-old woman has been charged with assault with a weapon while a 26-year-old woman has been charged with mischief over $5000, possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon. Both were also charged with breaching court-imposed conditions.
And at 1:55 p.m. Friday afternoon, police responded after getting a report someone was spraying bear spray inside the mall in the 300 block of Confederation Drive. Police investigation indicates suspects were trying to rob a male in the mall and sprayed him with bear spray before fleeing. The suspects weren’t located.
