Carrot River RCMP have charged a 24 year old man with attempted murder in relation to a shooting that occurred on Red Earth Cree Nation.

On Tuesday around 5:00 p.m., Carrot River RCMP and Nipawin RCMP received a report of a shooting on the first nation and responding officers located an injured man who was taken to hospital by EMS with serious injuries.

Police determined there was a fight between two men outside a home on the First Nation and during the altercation a gun was fired. The suspect fled on foot.

Tuesday evening a suspect was arrested on Red Earth Cree Nation by Carrot River RCMP and Floyd Nawakayas is charged with one count each attempted murder, weapons possession contrary to order, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, and discharge firearm with intent.

He is back in court in Carrot River on April 9th.
