United Farmers of Alberta will become a bigger player in the Saskatchewan ag retail business following the acquisition of AgraCity assets that were available through a bankruptcy and credit protection process which officially ended on Wednesday.
The farmers’ co-operative posted the winning bid of $48.2 million which includes the Genesis Grain and Fertilizer blending and distribution centre in Belle Plaine, SK; AgraCity’s generic crop protection registrations and a packaging and labeling facility in Saskatoon. UFA is also promising to “make good” about $20-million in sales of product to farmers that were paid for and not delivered. This could include providing the product or a substitute if the farmer does not require the original product.
UFA President and CEO Fred Thun is asking for farmers to be patient, but adds they can contact the UFA customer support line, especially if they have needs for 2026.
CJWW Agriculture Director Neil Billinger spoke to Fred Thun late Wednesday morning.
