La Guardia Airport remains closed this morning with 500+ flights already cancelled after an Air Canada plane collided with a fire truck on the runway killing the pilot and copilot.
According to posts on social media platform X, “a flight attendant was found outside the Air Canada plane by Port Authority Police, still strapped into her jump seat, due to the catastrophic destruction of the forward section where crew are positioned.”
Forty-one people were sent to hospital and Kathryn Garcia, the Port Authority Executive Director, said 32 had been released but there were also serious injuries.
In addition to four crew members there were 72 people on board the plane including an unaccompanied minor. The earliest the airport may reopen is 2 pm local time.
Air Canada Express CRJ-900 plane, operated by its partner Jazz Aviation was flying from Montreal to New York.
