Battlefords RCMP say they received a report after a resident got a call from a number that appeared to belong to a Saskatchewan RCMP detachment.
The caller told the individual to go to a local gas station and instruct cash from an ATM. They also told the intended victim not to go to any RCMP detachments because that would lead to their arrest.
RCMP are asking anyone who may have received a similar call or threat to contact your local detachment and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
If you receive a suspicious phone call or text message you are advised to hang up immediately, don’t share personal information, don’t trust caller ID, don’t send or withdraw money and don’t press buttons when asked.
Battlefords RCMP say the scammers can manipulate caller ID and that the RCMP will never request money or threaten an arrest for making a report to police.
