Hoar frost looks pretty but can also be pretty problematic.
The City of Saskatoon says about 14,000 customers were impacted by a power outage on Wednesday morning shortly after 7 a.m. Power was restored in short order to all customers, but multiple residents saw a flash before the blackout.
The City of Saskatoon says the reported flash relates to hoar frost on the transmission line at Saskatoon Light and Power which not only caused the system to trip but the arcing of electricity caused by the frost would have made the flash that was seen.
