It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…..
First and foremost, the biggest salute possible to Ben Brooks and Jason Lee for all of their hard work and effort in putting together the live Old Tyme Dance Party, celebrating the 50th anniversary of CJWW, back on Saturday at T-C-U Place. A second massive salute goes to my current co-workers who did a lot of leg work in support of Jason and Ben to make sure the evening went without many, if any, hitches!!
It was great to see so many CJWW alumni on Saturday – actually there was almost too many to get around to seeing and visiting with properly! I didn’t get to chat with Rod Kitter until we were getting ushered out around midnight and I never did circle back to former news man, Darcy Curle, whose voice I wish I had!!
Thank you to all in attendance for your kindness, stopping by the table and wanting one of my bobblehead dolls, signed and all! I thought I’d be taking home 49 of the 50, plus I actually had to urge you all to boo me because that didn’t happen as I expected it would – seeings how I’m the guy on the radio calling Saskatoon Blades’ games would take away from a full, four-hour Old Tyme Dance Party on Saturday nights when it’s hockey season!!
How about them Huskies?! Like I’ve said before, since it is so tough to go undefeated in an entire season or tournament, if you’re going to lose, make sure it’s not going into a podium situation! The USask women’s basketball team are back-to-back national champs after getting a reprieve from losing at the wrong time in the Canada West playoffs. Falling in the semi-final to Calgary, Lisa Thomaidis’ ladies were added to the eight-team field in Quebec City as a wild card and cleaned up. Overall record – Canada West regular-season, playoffs and U Sports nationals – 24-1! Congratulations!
And, Brandin Cote’s men’s hockey team won their second straight Canada West banner – this time on the road in Calgary over Mount Royal over the weekend, going to the University Cup through the front door as Cote and his players, to a man, wanted to do! They swept the Cougars in two straight after needing the full three games to overcome the Cats at Merlis Belsher Place last year! All the best in Halifax later this month!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
