When it became apparent to him that demand for food bank services was growing exponentially in Canada, Jerad Fedorchuk, co-founder of a local software company, says he knew he needed to step into action.
Fedorchuk is no stranger to the food security scene, as he developed FoodCopia, an app that helps food banks track and manage inventory to prevent waste.
Fedorchuk says with only an idea in hand, he reached out to several partners, including his co-founder, Amanda Getzlaf, and the group was able to organize province-wide gala event aimed at battling local food insecurity called Feeding Saskatchewan.
“Food banks have really touched the lives of a lot of people in the community. One of the things I’ve learned, going to these food bank events and fundraisers, you meet some people who are very affluent, but they haven’t always been that way. At certain points in their life, they had struggles and challenges, and now they’re supporting the food banks as donors.”
All proceeds will be shared between the Saskatoon Food Bank and Food Banks of Saskatchewan. Fedorchuk says the fundraising goal is $45,000.
Ticketholders can expect a meal, beneficiary speeches, entertainment from the Saskatoon Soaps, a performance from the Chinese Martial Arts Academy, and Sound City providing some music after the formal program.
Tickets are available through EventBrite at feedingsask.ca.
