If you’ve ever felt a looming cloud of guilt force you into leaving a tip, you’re not alone.
According to a recent survey by H+R Block, 70 per cent of Canadians have left a store or cafe feeling guilty because they either didn’t tip enough or at all.
More telling, 94 per cent of Canadians believe that tipping has gotten out of hand, with another 82 per cent saying that tipping is expected in more places than ever before.
Further, the survey indicates that Canadians believe 9 per cent is the tipping sweet spot, a figure much lower than what is often displayed on the transaction terminal.
For those hoping to save money without feeling guilty, H+R Block says it’s okay to set monthly tipping budgets, prioritize tipping for small businesses or great service, and be mindful with your hard-earned money.
