The Nipawin RCMP are asking for public assistance into their investigation of five homemade tire deflation devices (pictured) that were found in three different locations in the town of Nipawin yesterday.
A news release from the Saskatchewan RCMP says the Nipawin detachment received reports from residents about the homemade tire deflation devices at about 10:30 a.m. on March 1. Officers confirmed that the five tire deflation devices were found at the corner of 1st Avenue East and 2nd Street East; at the corner of Railway Avenue and 1st Avenue West and in the entrance to the parking lot of the Nipawin RCMP detachment at 119 Nipawin Road East. Police didn’t locate any additional homemade tire deflation devices after patrolling Nipawin’s streets and areas around other emergency service buildings in the community. They are made of black drywall screws put through white electrical cord and designed to pierce and deflate tires when vehicles drive over them. Nipawin RCMP report no vehicles were damaged, but are asking anyone with information – or anyone who witnessed suspicious activity at the three locations of the homemade tire deflation devices between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. on March 1 – to call 310-RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
