Two men are facing charges after more than 7 million illegal cigarettes were seized following a weigh scale inspection on Highway #1 near Swift Current on February 21st.
The Saskatchewan Highway Patrol determined that a semi was carrying what was believed to be illegal tobacco products, and the Swift Current Rural RCMP was called to continue the investigation.
Officers located and seized 26 pallets of illegal cigarettes in the semi trailer, which is estimated to contain about 7.2 million cigarettes.
24-year-old Hardev Singh and 28-year-old Sukhpreet Singh, both from Brampton, Ontario are facing one count each of ulawful possession of tobacco for sale, unlawful possession of unmarked tobacco, and unlawful possesion of tobacco.
The accused men will appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on April 1st.
