On Monday evening around 7:15 p.m. Jasper RCMP, assisted by Hinton RCMP, EMS and Jasper Fire Department, responded to a crash between a pickup and a tractor trailer unit on Highway 16, East of Jasper. EMS declared the 17-year-old driver and 18-year-old passenger in the pickup, deceased at the scene.
Both were residents of Hinton, Alberta and RCMP say road conditions are believed to be a factor in the collision. The two teens who were killed, according to a GoFundMe page, were Kayla Peacock and Danica Hills who were on their way home from hockey practice. The girls played hockey with Jasper U18 Bearcats hockey team.
It’s the second such crash in Alberta this month after three junior hockey players with the Southern Alberta Mustangs were killed February 2nd on their way to practice in Stavely, south of Calgary. Two of the boys were from Kamloops and a third was from Birmingham, Alabama.
