It’s my Parting Shot for The Fearless Predictor and his picks to win, finish second and be a darkhorse selection to watch out for at the St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, edition of the Montana’s Brier…..
After that long into to this piece, T-F-P had better make it good and he’d better get down to it!
Unless they win this event and go on to the World Championship, this will be the last competitive event in the highly-decorated career of Brad Gushue. While it would make for a great story and the sentimentality of it all would be incredible, it says here from T-F-P that Gushue’s home town, foursome from, “The Rock”, won’t win the 99th edition of the Canadian Men’s Curling Championship on March 8!
The Fearless Predictor is also going out on the limb and saying that the defending champion and freshly-minted Olympic gold medallist Brad Jacobs quartet from Calgary won’t win this year’s Brier. The time off has been long enough for the emotional high to subside, and it will be near impossible to replicate that this coming 10 days – especially with the entire field gunning for them and bringing their best game to that contest against Jacobs and company!
Nope, now I’m really going to go out on the line because, if I say that neither of the Jacobs and Gushue squads will be victorious, then the Brier Tankard is wide open to the rest of a very good field of teams. Hence, T-F-P says Mike McEwen’s Saskatoon team will become the first from Saskatchewan to win the title since Rick Folk’s foursome did so in 1980 in Calgary!
No, I’m not drunk or high – trust me!!
Nope, the McEwen quartet will beat Matt Dunstone’s Winnipeg squad in the final. The Jacobs and Gushue teams will make the playoffs, but fall short of the final. As for a darkhorse, how about Braden Calvert’s foursome from Winnipeg, finally breaking through and winning the Manitoba Tankard – quite possibly the most difficult provincial playdown to win in the country!
Let the rock throwing commence!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
