Keep your hands and feet inside the cart at all times, because when it comes to the spring forecast, the rollercoaster we’ve experienced this winter isn’t over yet.
That from the Weather Network’s senior meteorologist Doug Gillham.
He says, “That heightened gradient allows those temperatures swings to be even more dramatic than normal. We’re even going to see that over the next couple of weeks. We’ll get teased by spring weather, and then it’s back to mid-winter cold. That is a sign of what is to come. To some extent, that is normal in spring, but it seems like the temperature rollercoaster is a little bit extra dramatic so far this winter and looking ahead into spring.”
Gillham also says the Weather Network’s seasonal forecast suggests there are signs the winter could close out with a sudden switch to hot and dry conditions and that transition will start in the west.
“That would not be good as we head into the planting season, and especially if we turn warmer, there would start to be some concerns even about fire risk. It’s hard to imagine we’re talking about that.”
The rollercoaster ride in terms of the weather is evident this week with temperatures cruising above zero for a couple of days and then plunging back to daytime highs in the mid-minus teens.
“In spring, it’s not normal to be normal, if that makes sense.”
