The news about what is happening in Mexico is extremely disheartening. Puerto Vallarta is mine and my husband’s go-to vacation mid-winter. It’s affordable, we don’t do all inclusive but stay downtown in the old town within a block of the beach and have a bunch of favorite haunts for morning coffee, snacks, shopping, a nice dinner out and just getting out and enjoying exercise and fresh air. The people are wonderful and the worst of this isn’t just the tourists who are stranded although that would be unsettling at the least but the people who live and work there are suffering. Businesses were looted, set on fire and everything about this impacts their ability to maintain a living. Tourism is king in many areas of Mexico much like it is in Cuba which has also been horribly hit by weather, thank you hurricanes, and of course the latest with Trump and Venezuela restricting their access to oil. We are always aware of how fortunate we are to live in Canada and have the opportunity to travel to other locations and experience other cultures. Unfortunately, this kind of unrest will definitely factor into our considerations when planning a vacation going forward. In the interim, I am thinking of all our fellow Canadians still there, hoping to get home soon. Be safe.
