A new report, called “Strengthening Saskatchewan’s Grid: Transmission to Power Communities and Growth.” was released Monday by the provincial government.
The report highlights SaskPower’s planned investments in the transmission system, with the province saying in a news release that they believe a strong transmission system will enable large-scale industrial development, particularly for mining projects in the north of Saskatchewan.
The release adds that the report will supplement the Saskatchewan First Energy Security Strategy and Supply Plan released last fall.
The government also laid out a detailed, long-term plan for the province’s power future, which involves transitioning to nuclear power generation fueled by Saskatchewan uranium and by life extending the existing coal fired thermal power plants in the province fueled by Saskatchewan coal.
