What started as a report of one missing youth ended in the arrest of three in Saskatoon on Thursday.
At around 4:30 p.m., police were called to a city facility in the 200 block of Primrose Drive for a report of a missing child.
Upon arrival, an officer found the youth with a group of others inside the facility. While officers addressed this group, another youth from a nearby group was beginning to confront an employee of the facility.
As the officer attempted to de-escalate the situation, the young person became aggressive and started assaulting the officer. Police say several others from the group then joined in, and the officer’s carbine magazine became dislodged from their body armour. One of the youths then stole the magazine and ran away.
As the assault continued, the officer drew their conducted energy weapon, causing the group to back away. The officer then began arresting the 15-year-old boy who initiated the assault while the others fled. He was found to be in possession of a knife. A 14-year-old girl who was believed to be involved in the assault was also found and arrested.
Further investigation led officers to an address in the 300 block of Streb Crescent where a 16-year-old boy was arrested and the stolen magazine was recovered.
